M.2 SSD PS5
Upgrading your console with an M.2 SSD PS5 expansion is the single most impactful thing you can do to improve your PlayStation 5 experience. More storage, faster load times, and the freedom to keep your entire game library installed and ready — it all starts with the right NVMe drive.
KingSpec brings you a range of high-performance M.2 SSDs engineered to meet Sony's requirements and push your PS5 to its full potential.
The Best M.2 SSD PS5 Upgrade Starts with the Right Drive
5,500 MB/s+ Speeds
Meets and exceeds Sony's minimum requirement. KingSpec NVMe drives deliver the headroom your console needs to perform at its best.
Direct Slot Installation
M.2 2280 form factor fits directly into the PS5 expansion bay. No adapters, no enclosures, no special tools required.
Zero Speed Trade-off
Performance that matches the PS5's internal SSD. Your games load just as fast from the expansion drive as from the built-in storage.
Up to 2TB More Space
Turn 667GB of usable internal space into nearly 3TB. Keep your full library installed and switch between titles without deleting anything.

Double Your PS5 Storage Without Sacrificing Speed
🎮 Build a Full Game Library
The PS5's internal SSD offers just 667GB of usable space — barely enough for a handful of modern titles. KingSpec's M.2 SSD range offers up to 2TB of additional capacity, so you can build a library without compromise.
- Store 20–50 additional full games depending on title size
- Keep your PS4 and PS5 libraries installed simultaneously
- No performance penalty compared to the PS5's built-in SSD
- Expand once and game without interruption for years
⚡ Near-Instant Asset Streaming
Sequential read speeds up to 7,400 MB/s mean open-world environments load faster, fast-travel transitions are nearly seamless, and asset streaming keeps up with even the most demanding next-gen titles.
- Open-world titles load with minimal or no screen transitions
- Consistent performance under sustained gaming workloads
- Thermal management prevents throttling during long sessions
🛡️ Long-Term Reliability
A PS5 SSD upgrade is a long-term investment. Every KingSpec drive is tested for endurance, thermal stability, and sustained performance — so your storage keeps up no matter how hard you game.
- High TBW (terabytes written) rating for years of heavy use
- Advanced wear-leveling and error correction technology
- Backed by KingSpec's manufacturer warranty
- Rigorously tested for next-gen console compatibility

Important: Sony requires a minimum sequential read speed of 5,500 MB/s for PS5-compatible M.2 SSDs. The drive must also have a heatsink or thermal solution. KingSpec's PS5 M.2 SSDs meet and exceed these requirements — always check specs before buying any M.2 drive for PS5 use.
How to Install Your M.2 SSD in PS5
Power Down and Remove the Side Panel
Turn off your PS5 completely — never in rest mode. Remove the white side panel (the one without the vent) by sliding it upward. The M.2 slot is clearly visible above the cooling fan.
Insert the M.2 SSD at an Angle
Hold the drive at roughly 30° and align the notch with the slot key. Slide it in gently until it seats fully, then press it flat against the mounting surface.
Secure with the Provided Screw
Use the single screw included with your KingSpec drive to secure the SSD in place. If your drive doesn't have a pre-attached heatsink, apply the included thermal pad before securing.
Initialize via PS5 Settings
Reassemble the console and power it on. Go to Settings → Storage → Extended Storage → Format as M.2 SSD. The PS5 will test the drive speed and confirm it's ready for use.
💡 Pro Tips for PS5 M.2 SSD Installation
- Don't force it — if the drive doesn't slot in easily, check the notch alignment. Forcing it can damage the connector permanently
- Thermal management matters — even with a heatsink-equipped model, the thermal pad ensures heat transfers efficiently during long sessions
- Always initialize through settings — plugging in without initializing can result in an unrecognized or unformatted drive
- Keep your receipt — if the drive isn't recognized after initialization, warranty support requires proof of purchase
- Use the 2TB model if your budget allows — 500GB and 1TB models fill up faster than most gamers anticipate with modern title sizes
- Check for firmware updates — Sony occasionally releases PS5 system updates that improve M.2 SSD compatibility and performance
